Fairy Tale Fortnight

Image
I love fairy tale adaptations, retellings, and inspired bys. There's just something about the dynamics and little tidbits from the fairy tales that make such interesting stories. My first published romance was a fairy tale retelling or inspired by depending on your viewpoint. The Beast's Redemption came from Beauty and the Beast . If you haven't read my The Beast's Redemption beware there are some spoilers below, but I thought it would be fun to share what I included from the original fairy tale as well as other adaptations. Names My heroine is named Belle - the original name of Beauty (and the Disney version). Her surname and the hero's name are also French. My little nod to the fairy tale's origin. Rose I wanted the rose as a symbol in the story. It makes three appearances. 1) As a single red rose Alexander gives to Belle. 2) The rose emblem on the amulet Alexander wears. 3) The rose journal which has the answer to breaking the curse. G...

New Year's Blog Hop

Image
I always find the beginning of a new year kinda funny. As a mom, I tend to focus more on September as being the start of a new year. That's when our new schedule grabs hold and the rest of my year is mapped out. But you can't help but look over the previous calendar year when New Years comes along. Not with everyone talking about it. I don't do resolutions. Mostly because I don't keep them. Goals are better for me, but even with goals I tend to have this anti-goal thing going inside me. I start to feel constrained and start doing whatever I can to not achieve the goal. Yet, I was very goal oriented in my youth. I competed heavily in horses in my teens and I loved TRAINING toward a show (the goal being to do well at the show). Wasn't thrilled with the actual showing, but I thrived under the training structure. It's more about the journey for me. So in looking at your resolutions and goals check out the journey portion of achieving them and make sure it's s...

The Beast's Redemption One Year Anniversary

Image
Wow, it's hard to believe it's been one year since The Wild Rose Press released my first novella The Beast's Redemption (actually, about a year and one month :-)). Alexander Leandre's voice was so strong when I set out to write a fairy tell adaptation that even though I had originally planned on retelling a less famous fairy tale I ended up doing Beauty and the Beast. The Beast was very insistent that his story be told. To celebrate the one year anniversary I'm going to give away a pdf copy of The Beast's Redemption to one lucky winner. Use the Rafflecopter form below to enter (this giveaway is international). Image
Welcome to my #sffsat snippet! To read other #sffsat snippets head over over here. The Beast's Redemption is a paranormal romance novella about a shape shifter and witch who must learn to trust in each other to break a hundred year old curse. *** Alexander second-guessed his impulsive proposition to her in the elevator. The pictures hadn’t done her beauty justice or prepared him for the fact she could have been Serena’s identical twin. As soon as she’d walked into the room, the old rage had gripped him with a longing to strangle the little witch. His brain had overridden his instincts reminding him the woman wasn’t Serena. But that didn’t mean he could relax his guard. Belle looked too much like Serena for coincidence. She was either a direct descendant or the sorceress reincarnated. Serena was vain enough to demand the same body when she came back. Jory, the driver from the car service, opened his door, and Alexander shook off the unpleasant memories of years past. T...

Welcome to my #sffsat snippet! To read other #sffsat snippets head over over here. I took a break for a little bit from participating under my other pen name, Angelia Almos, as I ran out of stuff to post, but now that I know I can post paranormal romance I'm back under my Angie Derek pen name. The Beast's Redemption is a paranormal romance novella about a shape shifter and witch who must learn to trust in each other to break a hundred year old curse. *** The stranger’s jaw flexed and his gaze drilled into her. The golden eyes darkened into rage, and panic rose within Belle Beaumont. She stood her ground. She was in no danger in the conference room of her family’s company. She pulled her gaze from the stranger to her father. Mercer was expectant and hadn’t caught the anger vibrating off the man. She was pretty sure this wasn’t the distraction her father had intended when he’d sent his urgent text message not two minutes ago. She scrambled for what she’d said just a mo...

Six Sentence Sunday - The Beast's Redemption

The Beast's Redemption by Angie Derek. A steamy paranormal romance novella.  A shape shifter and a witch have to trust in each other to break a hundred year old curse. Six Sentence Sunday Snippet: “You can’t pretend it didn’t happen.” He stepped closer, crowding her personal space, again. “I didn’t say I was,” she hissed. “But seeing how you’re going to obliterate my world in about forty-eight hours, I think I have the right to make arrangements and prepare my sisters for the fallout.” His lips tightened into a frown, and he grabbed her wrist again. She almost sighed at the now-familiar gesture.
