Thank you so much for inviting me over today. I'm so excited to introduce my new series - The McBrides - starting with The Return of Brody McBride.

What was the spark or initial idea that started your book?

Whenever I start a new book, it's usually the opening scene that comes to me first. In this case, it's two brothers who meet again when Brody comes home after eight long years. Owen knows a secret and Brody wants to find his lost love. They didn't go their separate ways as friends, so the first meeting is sibling rivalry at its best.

The spark for the book came from one question - What if a guy got two women pregnant, left town in disgrace, and came home to make amends with the woman he loves and discovered he had two daughters? Well, Brody's got his hands full, but he's ready to make amends and be a father, but he wants the woman he loves by his side.

What was your favorite part of writing this book?

In addition to the relationship between Brody and Rain and the complicated situation they find themselves in, this book is about family and the wonderfully complex dynamics in them. I really enjoyed writing the banter between Brody and Owen. I have two brothers. I know how they like to razz each other. I also loved writing the scenes when Brody interacts with his girls, and seeing Brody's protective streak. It's one of the things that endears him to Rain and bridges the gap between their past and present and helps her to forgive him for leaving her, because he didn't leave her all alone - he left a piece of himself in their girls.

What is your favorite scenes from your book?

Rain is talking to Brody about his father visiting her after she gave birth to Dawn. His father talks to her about Brody leaving her...

Excerpt:

"He (Brody's father) said, ‘The worst thing a man can do is leave a good woman, or make her leave him. You’re a good woman, Rain. Brody left too much of himself behind. He’ll be back, or spend the rest of his days in misery as it should be for any man willing to let love go.’ I’ll never forget his words, or the way he said them.”

Brody turned away toward the dark, his back to the truth. He couldn’t believe his father had been so different with Rain from the man he knew.

“Brody, did you ever wonder why your father drank so much. Maybe it would help you to reconcile who your father was if you considered how he truly felt about your mother. I don’t know much about their relationship, but I gather he loved her very much and didn’t know how to show her, or tell her. It’s my impression she was very different from Owen’s mother, softer, sweeter of nature. Maybe a counter-balance to your father’s more gruff and hard personality. I think he regretted damaging her and driving her away. I think he lived in misery, trying to drink away his memory of her and what he’d done, because he’d let love go.”"

If your book was made into a movie and you got to design the movie poster, what would the tagline say? 

The Return of Brody McBride: Never give up on love.

What's next for you?
