If You Only Knew (A Trust No One Novel) by Dixie Lee Brown
What was the spark or initial idea that started your book?
I guess you could say my hero in IF YOU ONLY KNEW came to me with baggage. By that I mean mistakes made, events that careened out of control, and lives changed forever, especially his. It was clear he’d never face his past unless something happened to give him a little push. So, I helped him out!
What was your favorite part of writing this book?
There are so many exciting aspects of writing a book, but I love the dialogue. I believe a book is only as good as its sharp, witty conversation. Dialogue should fit each character’s voice yet be fresh and real. Much of the romance and sexual tension comes through talking. Dialogue has a huge job! I’m usually still tweaking mine even while one finger hovers over the send button.
What is your favorite line from your book?
This line follows directly after Rayna tells Ty that if he cares about her at all he won’t ask her to stay. “I’ve done everything you’ve ever asked me to do.” He paused, looked away, and drew a deep breath. “Why would today be any different?” With that, he strode toward the front of the building, turned the corner, and disappeared.
What movie or television show would you say is most like your book in tone, topic, and/or characters?
Proof of Life – with Meg Ryan and Russell Crowe – This is a perfect example of the team of mercenaries doing good deeds while operating just a little outside the law when necessary.
If your book was made into a movie and you got to design the movie poster, what would the tagline say?
If You Only Knew: Take a deep breath—then run!
But when her plans for the evening suddenly involve defending her life against a criminal empire, Rayna knows she needs backup. Suddenly the choice she made to leave Ty and her old mercenary team in Montana seems like a bad call. She’s been running from her feelings for the tough, rugged man, but Rayna needs Ty now more than ever. Yet when Ty becomes the new target, his help could mean his death…
Ex-cop Ty Whitlock has spent the last six years waiting for his past to catch up with him. When it finally does, he isn’t expecting the woman he loves-the one who walked out on him-to be caught in its web. He knows she’s moved on, but he can’t help but want one more chance with the petite beauty. Ty’s only got one choice: find Rayna and keep her safe. But that’s the easy part. Once he finds her, can he convince her to stay?
